This talk is organised by Tech & Cider with the partnership of YHP, Reach Robotics and Deniz Designs. Tech & Cider is a forum for early stage start-ups and budding entrepreneurs with the aim of demystifying the start-up journey and nurturing the Bristol tech ecosystem.

About Open Bionics

Open Bionics is an award-winning robotics company developing affordable, assistive technologies that enhance the human body. They turn children with limb differences into bionic superheroes. Open Bionics has won the James Dyson Award for Innovative Engineering, the international UAE Robotics and AI For Good Award, and two British Engineering Excellence Awards. They are currently collaborating with The Walt Disney Company and Edios-Montreal to bring bionic limbs from science fiction to life. Open Bionics is currently working with the NHS on a world-first clinical trial for 3D printed bionic limbs and patients. 

 Samantha Payne is the COO and co-founder at Open Bionics. A former tech journalist, Samantha co-founded Open Bionics in 2014, and has since been recognised by Bloomberg, Fast Company, and Forbes 30 under 30 as an entrepreneur to watch. 

 Joel Gibbard is Open Bionics' CEO and co-founder. Joel has been building working robots since he was seven years old and has been named Britain's Best Design Engineer. Joel set up Open Bionics to radically disrupt the medical industry.

 About the host

Silas Adekunle is the co-founder and CEO of Reach Robotics. He started Reach Robotics in 2013 during his undergraduate Robotics studies at UWE and has been recognised by Forbes 30u30 in the Technology and Entrepreneurship categories.

 About Reach Robotics

Reach Robotics is a UK tech-startup based in Bristol, with the aim of bringing high-end robotics and augmented reality to mainstream gaming audiences and provide the tools for future robotics and STEM education.

 The format of the session

- 6:00 pm arrive and time for a drink and networking before the talk starts

- 6:15 pm -7:15pm Fireside chat

- 7:15 pm – 7:30 pm Q/A

- 7:30 pm - our session ends but you are welcome to stay longer for a drink or to network with other attendees

- Drinks and food are available to purchase from Watershed.


About the Venue

The Pervasive Media Studio hosts a brilliant community of over 100 artists, creative companies, technologists and academics exploring experience design and creative technology. It is a collaboration between WatershedUniversity of Bristol and UWE Bristol. 

Access to the Venue

Pervasive Media Studio is located within Watershed in the city centre on Bristol’s historic harbourside.

 Car and Bike Parking

Travelling by bike? View a map of local cycle parking/services nearby, or see Bristol City Council's bike information. There are two Blue Badge parking spaces to the rear of the building on Canon’s Road. 

The closest car parks are Millennium Square Car Park and Trenchard Street NCP.

 The main entrance is located on the ground floor which is accessible via a ramped, electronically assisted entrance door. One of our friends will be assisting you through the studio.
