Technical Blueprint - Developing Defence (Stirling Regional Training Centre)

Rugby in Scotland is a healthy and enjoyable leisure-time pursuit, with many people given the opportunity to develop their skills and test themselves, not only against each other, but against other countries. Rugby also provides experiences which contribute to self-esteem and self-fulfilment, to confidence and personal development. The quality of experience will depend on many things, such as facilities and organisation, but perhaps the most central factors the quality of leadership and coaching.This is central to performance improvements at all levels. Coaches work with a vast range of performers - some seeking enjoyment and purposeful participation, others concerned with making a living and some driven to achieve international honours. The quality of coaching is important to all, and whatever your reason for being involved in Rugby, we are here to help you become as good a coach as you can be.

Scottish Rugby Training & Education

The Developing Defence workshop will help coaches develop an understanding of the core principle of the Technical Blueprint.
By the end of the workshop, coaches will have a clearer picture of how to coach the individual tackle, and develop the key principles of filling the field, linespeed and reseting the defensive line.

1. What does an effective defence look like?
2. Defending as a chain of 3
3. Effective tackle technique
4. Ruck defence as part of the wider team defence
5. Back field positioning
