Thursday 27th October:  6pm-8pm Session 1: Evening : From global to local - What a Waste!
We’re all guilty of wasting food, buying too much stuff and not putting items in the right recycling bin, but on a global scale waste is out of control. Tristam Stuart reveals the ‘Global Food Scandal’ , sustainability strategist Leyla Acaroglu says we aren’t necessarily doing the right thing in her talk ‘ Paper beats plastic? How to rethink environmental folklore’. What can we do locally to combat food waste and live more sustainably? Guests: James Smart and Ruth McCabe from Save The Date Café and Michael Barsties from OLIO.
Thursday 3rd November: 2pm-4pm Session 2: Afternoon : Borders and boundaries Questions about national borders and global identity have become part of daily discourse: Alexander Betts explains ‘Why Brexit Happened – and What to do next’, Hugh Evans goes global and explores ‘What it means to be a citizen of the world’ and we learn how Social Media has been used to overcome borders through Siyanda Mohutsiwa’s talk ‘How young Africans found a voice on Twitter’.
Thursday 10th November: 6pm-8pm Session 3: Evening : From global to local - Building better cities Living in big cities can affect our physical and mental health and wellbeing, but how can cities be improved and what can we do to improve our own urban environment? Brazilian Urban activist Alessandra Orofino states ‘It’s our City, Let’s Fix it’ and eco-Entrepreneur Shubhendu Sharma tells us ‘How to grow a forest in your backyard’.  Pocket parks, allotments and rooftop beehives all bring a little bit of nature to London but are the real benefits? Thursday 17th November: 2pm-4pm Session 4: Afternoon : Making the best of a crisis  Moments of crisis can turn our lives upside down, but an unexpected response can turn a crisis into an opportunity. Melissa Fleming, chief spokesperson for the UNHCR explains how to make the international community care about the Refugee Crisis through ‘A boat carrying 500 refugees at sea, the story of two survivors’. Kina Cahan tells of how her father’s life turned around after a stroke in ‘My Father locked in his body but soaring free’ and Nancy Lubin takes a positive take on texting in her talk  ‘ How data from a crisis text line is saving lives’.
Thursday 24th November: 6pm-8pm Session 5: Evening:  From global to local - Health in our hands How responsible can we be for our own health? The health service is barely able to cope with demand, so how can we relieve the system and look after ourselves? Physician Joseph Ravenall explains ‘How barbershops can keep men healthy’ as a safe space for black men to talk about medical problems and Dr Rishi Mahanda realised that his job isn’t about treating a patients symptoms but looking at the root cause in ‘What makes us sick? Look upstream’. So what can we do for ourselves to improve our physical and mental wellbeing and live a healthier life? Guests: Eileen Bellot from Hands Inc and Andrew Stuck from Museum of Walking
Thursday 1st December: 2pm-4pm Session 6: Afternoon : Lead or follow? Are you a natural born leader or do you prefer to follow the crowd? Simon Sinek has a simple but powerful model for inspirational leadership in ‘How great leaders inspire action’, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg asks ‘Why we have too few woman leaders’, Seth Godin explains that the internet has enabled anyone to lead in their own way in his talk ‘The tribes we lead’ and Drew Dudley suggests we can all improve each others lives through ‘Everyday leadership.’
