Telling Stories – Sharing Together

A six week creative storytelling programme for parents and carers with young children

Telling Stories – Sharing Together is a gentle, playful six week programme designed for parents and carers to attend with their young children, aged 2-5.. Each weekly session offers a shared space to explore stories, rhythm, movement, and imaginative play, supporting early communication, confidence, and connection.

The programme invites adults and children to slow down together, to listen, respond, and create through simple storytelling activities that are joyful, inclusive, and rooted in togetherness. The programme is led by Ria Butler, the Boathouse Lead Storyteller and experienced creative practitioner. Sessions are carefully structured to feel welcoming, safe, and responsive to the needs of both children and adults.

This programme has been commissioned by Barking and Dagenham Family Hubs and is delivered by The Boathouse Studios as part of its ongoing commitment to creative early years practice and community wellbeing.

This is a programme rather than a drop in session. Families book once and are invited to commit to the full six weeks, allowing relationships to build and a sense of shared experience to grow across the group.

Telling Stories – Sharing Together supports:

  • early language and communication
  • bonding and positive parent child interaction
  • confidence through play and imagination
  • connection between families within the community
