A deep dive into the history of visual tools in psychological testing, and their connections to art and culture

Over the past century, psychologists have worked like artists, inventing tests and drawing tasks involving graphic shapes, photographs, narrative sequences, cartoons and drawing. But why?Who designed these tools and tests? Can they do justice to our neurodiversity? And what might we discover if we play with these tests, perturb them, and re-invent them as our own? Join visual artist Peter Shenai and Professor of Neuroscience Francesca Happé as they take you on a playful journey, delving into the history and landscape of psychology’s visual tests. You’ll see examples over the last 100 years, learn some surprising links between art and science, and take some of the playful “mock tests”, which Happé and Shenai have developed as part of their art-science collaboration, “Testing, testing!”. We welcome anyone to this workshop to come, listen, create, critique, and share perspectives. No prior art or science backgrounds required – just bring you, your curiosity, and your collaborative spirit ;) This workshop is one hour 30 minutes long. All materials are provided.
