Discover mindful creativity through the art of Textiles.

Led by Textile Artist, Rachel Halstead, these workshops have been developed to open up creativity through exploration of techniques and inspirational links. Feel the benefits of taking some time out to be mindful and creative whilst making friends in a social and supportive environment.

*Tickets are available to purchase for the whole 12 week classes or you are welcome to book individual weeks as you go.

Week 1: Cool, shady ponds and gardens. Painted Bondaweb, heat transferred to fabric, evoking the soft ripples and dappled light of Monets paintings. Be inspired by the gentle sounds of Chopin and Debussy’s piano music as you create your dreamy pieces of textiles art.

Week2: A Midsummer Night’s Dream – let’s visit the fairy glen with delicate layers of iridescent fusible fibres to create ethereal effects on fabric. Mendelssohns classical music inspired by Shakespears famous play will make this an enchanting creative experience.

Week 3: Produce your own piece of textiles art based on the theme “Burst of Summer”. Using stencils in different ways, you will create layers of pattern and colour with fabric pens, paint, spray and heat transfer crayons to build up depth and interesting textures.

Week 4: Come and dip your toes into a rockpool made from soft, sculptural textiles materials…complete with glistening pebbles and seaweed!.

Week 5: Create a wreath inspired by the vibrant art of Frida Kahlo and the hot spicy colours of Mexico.

Week 6: Desert Island Discs – make your own little coral island using a range of sculptural textiles techniques. Inspired by the work of glass artist Chihuly.

Week 7: Welcome to the summer fete: make cake-stall bunting featuring appliqued ice cream, donuts, pizza and lollies with extra sequin sprinkles and button pepperoni!.

Week 8: Join Dylan Thomas on Swansea beach this summer! Heat transfer print lines from his poem ‘Holiday Memory’ onto creative textiles backgrounds.

Week 9: Sands of time: emulating the soft curves and patterns left in the sand when the tide goes out using layers of fabric, stitching and cutting techniques.

Week 10: A passion for printmaking. Using the humble potato as a printmaking tool you will be encouraged to cut your own shapes to achieve effective organic and geometric patterns. Stamping and mark-making techniques will you to explore repeating and colour sequences. The result - perfect for a summer bandana!

Week 11: Become a fashionista! Design your own bag using fabric pens to apply patterns and designs with a vibrant floral theme. Learn tricks of the trade to make your piece look as bright and individual as you are!

Week 12: This last session is an opportunity to combine two or more techniques – you may want to bring your artwork from previous classes and add extra elements or try adding embellishments like beads and sequins for example. You are welcome to try something from a previous session or something new. Feel free to experiment and let your creativity flow!
