A family fun day with music, food, live art, face painting... and so much more! A celebration of our new Thornton Heath Afro Beat Orchestra!

On Saturday 15th April 15:30 pm – 18:30 pm, we will be hosting our THABO launch event at The Scouts Centre, 105-105 Beulah Rd, Thornton Heath CR7 8JG. We are excited to announce our new Arts Council-funded project: THABO (The Thornton Heath Afro-Beat Orchestra), kickstarting in April 2023. It is a contemporary learning Afrobeat Orchestra, which will guide young people in their musical growth with regular rehearsals, learning, composing and performing of music from the African Diaspora - Afrobeat, Reggae, Jazz, Blues, Latin. This event will be an exciting celebration of the project and the importance of the local community in bringing the orchestra to life. There will be food, music, dancing and live artwork. We also will be hosting our very own MRF Talent Show, starring the MRF Music School students! We would love to encourage the families of MRF to bring food from their own cultures and communities to share with everyone, and we would love to create an MRF 'Cookbook' featuring everyone's favourite recipes! All the money made from selling food, cookbooks, and the raffle will be used to keep our Music School lessons and events running, as well as to keep THABO alive longterm. We have been given a wall at the centre to graffiti with the THABO logo, making it a staple of the Thornton Heath community for countless years to come. ! With the Scouts Hall so close to The Lord Napier, the pub MRF is looking to take on as our new music centre, this will be another step forward in making it our own.
