The Royal African Societyis a membership organisation that fosters a better understanding of Africa in the UK and throughout the world. Our goal is to promote Africa globally in the spheres of business, politics, academia, arts and culture. We disseminate knowledge and insight to make a positive difference to Africa’s development and celebrate the diversity and depth of African cultures.The University of London's Centre of African Studiesis the largestcentreof expertiseonAfrica outside Africa. Founded in 1965 at SOAS,Universityof London, where its administration is still based, since 1991 the Centre has assumed formal responsibility forco-ordinating, stimulating and promotinginterdisciplinarystudy, research and discussion on Africa within the University; and promoting a wider awareness of African issues.TheAfrica Clubis a student-run club at London Business School and is governed by the LBS Africa Club Advisory Board who provide support and oversight on the club’s ability to achieve its goals and objectives.Our mission is to promote the engagement between both the school and the broader community. Our members are individuals who have either worked in Africa or have a cultural or professional interest in Africa.

Africa is a billion-person market offering exciting and profitable opportunities, but investment in the region remains slow. Its rising middle-class is young, fast-growing and technology-savvy, but not much is known about consumption patterns. So who are  Africa's middle class? What are their defining characteristics and do multinationals understand them?  To find out the answers to these questions and many more, join us for the presentation of recent research on the ‘middle class’ in Africa undertaken by both academics and businesses operating on the continent.
