The Choral (12A)
It’s 1916 and a new, uncompromising choirmaster sets an ambitious task for a choral society after losing most of its men to the army.
The Choral (12A) tells the tale of Ramsden’s Choral Society. It’s 1916 and as the war rages on, the Choral Society has lost most of its men to the army. The Choral’s ambitious committee, determined to press ahead, decides to recruit local young males to swell their ranks. They must also engage a new chorus master, and despite their suspicions that he has something to hide, their best bet seems to be Dr. Henry Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes). He’s driven, uncompromising, and recently returned from a career in Germany. Even as conscription looms, music unites and uplifts the community.
Directed by Nicholas Hytner and written by Alan Bennett, The Choral is heartwarming and uplifting.
Doors open half an hour before the film starts.
Our Friday night screenings are generously supported by estate agents Hammond and Smith
