The Data Science Sessions: An Introduction to Web Scraping in Python

This workshop aims to teach you to pull and parse data and code a microservice with Python.

As part of Sparta Global&#x27;s &#x27;Come Back Stronger&#x27; campaign, this workshop aims to take you from zero coding experience to writing a microservice with Python. When dealing with large problems we often break them into smaller chunks to make them easier to manage. A micro-services approach does the same with applications. Instead of a huge, interconnected program, you have small loosely connected apps, which makes updating or fixing defects a lot easier. You do not need any prior coding knowledge to take part in this workshop and will be learning the basics of Python, making calls to the internet, parsing data such as HTML and JSON, and creating a service that you can publish to the world if you wish!

<h2>Weekly Focus </h2>Week 1: Python Basics - 23rd June 2021 - 15:00-17:00Week 2: Dealing with Data and Files - 30th June 2021 - 15:00-17:00 Week 3: Making HTTP calls and Parsing Data - 7th July 2021 - 15:00-17:00 Week 4: Build your own Microservice - 14th July 2021 - 15:00-17:00 Each week will build on the previous week. We encourage you to attend all sessions to get the most out of the workshop, however, you can attend one-off sessions. Each weekly session will be recorded, and we will share the recording details with anyone who has registered.

Attendee Requirements: Sparta Global’s ‘Introduction to Data Scraping in Python’ event is open to all backgrounds, regardless of your experience.  Any preparation regarding learning the basics of Python before joining this course will only be of benefit to you despite their being no pre-requisites to this workshop.  If you’re interested, we simply ask a few things of you: <ul><li>Commitment to attend each weekly workshop </li><li>Access to a laptop/computer</li><li>Download Python 3.9.5 Installation - link <a href="https://www.python.org/downloads/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">here</a></li><li>Download PyCharm IDE – link <a href="https://www.jetbrains.com/pycharm/download/#section=windows" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">here </a>– Please ensure you install the community edition – if you are using another IDE that you’re comfortable it is not a problem. </li><li>Strong and reliable internet connection </li></ul>
