Event Details

The Divide tells the story of 7 individuals striving for a better life in the modern day US and UK - where the top 0.1% owns as much wealth as the bottom 90%. By plotting these tales together, we uncover how virtually every aspect of our lives is controlled by one factor: the size of the gap between rich and poor.

This isn’t based on real life. This is real life.

By weaving these stories with news archive from 1979 to the present day, The Divide creates a lyrical, psychological and tragi-comic picture of how economic division creates social division. The film is inspired by the critically-acclaimed, best-selling book The Spirit Level by Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett.

The film runs for about 1h20m: interested people can join a panel debrief/discussion for a short while after it.

Please reserve your places, as we need an approximate headcount on the audience.  Cancel (or let us know) if you cannot then come on the night.

We will have a retiring collection to cover screening costs: any profit will be donated to appropriate local charity.

This event is supported by Ceredigion People's Assembly.

Access: theatre C22 is best reached from the piazza in front of the Arts Centre.  Travel toward Penglais Hill past the library entrance and enter the long building.  We will signpost on the night.

Mae The Divide yn adrodd hanes saith unigolyn sy’n ymdrechu am fywyd gwell yn yr UD ac yn y DU fodern - lle mae’r 0.1% cyfoethocaf yn berchen cymaint a’r 90% tlotaf. Drwy gynllunio’r storiau hyn gyda’n gilydd, dyn ni’n dadorchuddio sut mae bron i bob agwedd o’n bywydau’n cael ei reoli gan un ffactor: maint y bwlch rhwng y cyfoethog a’r tlawd.

Dyw hwn ddim yn seiliedig ar fywyd go iawn. Hyn ydy bywyd go iawn.

Drwy wehyddu’r storiau hyn ag archifau newyddion o 1979 tan y diwrnod presenol, mae The Divide yn creu darlun telynegol, seicolegol a trasig ddoniol o sut mae rhwyg economaidd yn creu rhwyg gymdeithasol. Ysbrydolwyd y ffilm gan y llyfr clodedig The Spirit Level gan Richard Wilkinson a Kate Pickett.

Mae’r ffilm yn rhedeg am tua awr ag ugain munud. Gall pobl sydd a diddordeb ymuno a phanel i’w thrafod am gyfnod byr yn dilyn y ffilm.

Archebwch eich lle os gwelwch yn dda, am ein bod angen amcangyfrif o nifer y bobl yn y gynulleidfa. Rhowch wybod i ni os na fedrwch ddod ar y noson.

Byddwn yn gwneud casgliad ar ddiwedd y ffilm er mwyn talu am gostau dangos y ffilm. Bydd unrhyw elw’n cael ei roi i elusen leol addas.

Cefnogir y digwyddiad gan Gynulliad Gwerin Ceredigion.

Mynediad: Y ffordd orau i gyrraedd theatr C22 yw o’r piazza o flaen Canolfan y Celfyddydau. Teithiwch tuag at Fryn Penglais, heibio mynedfa’r llyfrgell ac ewch i mewn i’r adeilad hir. Bydd arwyddion gyda ni ar y noson.
