.the dot

Overview

.the dot is a free spoken word open mic night. Come for spoken word, leave with community and creative inspiration.

Welcome to .the dot!

Come to our Trans & Queer lead and centred spoken word open mic night.
Everything about the space is optional apart from sharing our inclusive and intersectional ethos.

We will start with some gentle chat before getting in to our first part of our performances. at .the dot we don't clap, we use jazz hands or whatever feels best for you to show silent appriciation for the artist. Then we will have a break with some optional chat, writing prompts or stillness.

Then we will again open the floor for some more opportunities to share your spoken word.

We will occasionally have a spotlight performer.

The event is open for everyone who wants to be surrounded by community with optional engagement. Whether you have written before or not, whether you intend to write or not, whether you have been to an event like this before or not, this is for you. Come share, create or just turn up with the intention of stillness.

If you would like to share any written words there will be a sign up sheet at the venue.
3 of cups provides the space for free to us so we can keep our event free to attend, the cafe will be open for drinks and Bernie's banging cakes.

The venue is on level access and has a gender neutral bathroom. The event will not currently be BSL interpreted. We will have a selection of fidgets. If you have any access requirements please get in touch at dtq.initiative@outlook.com or reach out on instagram, if it is achievable to meet your requirements we will.

.the dot is brought to you by Durham Trans & Queer Initiative. We are creating spaces in Durham, by and for trans and queer people.

Rooted in anti colonialism, community care, creativity, and collective liberation.

Everyone who shares our values is welcome.
