Overview

A very special workshop celebrating the launch of Lewis & Wood's new Patchwork collection.

Calling all patchwork fans - come and join us for a day of quilting joy in our beautiful Woodchester studio.

This workshop is truly a celebration of the history and craft of patchwork quilts and we are delighted to have three textile experts on hand to guide you.

We'll start the day with coffee and an introduction with Creative Director Magdalen Jebb, who will talk you through the inspiration behind the company’s brand new Patchwork collection.

There will be a chance to look at a wealth of resources, including original American quilt examples from collector Cordelia Hall, who will be on hand to offer advice as an experienced quilt maker.

Following this, we'll split into two groups. Magdalen will demonstrate three speedy machine techniques, Log Cabin, Checkerboard and a Strip-Stripe method that very neatly uses our production remnants.

Alongside this, creative tutor Alexandra Hucks will demonstrate how to appliqué a Matelassé square, inspired by the Baltimore quilt. She'll advise on composition, motifs and use of colour, after which you'll be let loose on our remnant stash to find pieces that appeal.

You’ll finish the day with two squares which may inspire the start of a long term textiles project. Alternatively, you may choose to turn them into a cushion on the spot, so a 50cm pad is included with your ticket.

This workshop sums up our ethos here at the Top Floor, making the most of Lewis & Wood's production remnants by turning the smallest scraps into beautiful and useful items, fitting perfectly with the principles of patchwork.

We hope that you will come and enjoy this very special event with us. A delicious lunch and afternoon tea and cake are included.
