Open Source Software is of critical importance to many organisations, but the successful use of this software needs to be based on sound strategy that appreciates the nuances in terms of business model, license fundamentals, and community engagement.The May LNETM will discuss how the Open Source movement is evolving and what this means for enterprises that use associated software products. It will deep dive into some key trends around licensing, business models, and contribution strategies to understand how they impact organisations that use these products.Sam Hields (Principal at Open Ocean Capital) will lead the discussion, based on his recent <a href="https://www.indefatigableyarn.com/wtfpl-and-other-licenses/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">research</a> in the Open Source licensing space – he will be joined by leading industry experts including:<ul><li>D﻿awn Foster (Director of Open Source Community Strategy at VMware and co-chair of the CNCF Contributor Strategy TAG)</li><li>J﻿ames McLeod (Director of Community at FINOS and Founder Organiser at London.js)</li><li>John Newton (Co-Founder of Alfresco and Documentum)</li><li>Cosmin Oprea (Enterprise Architect at LSEG and Linux Foundation Europe Advisory Board member)</li></ul>There will also be three flash talks by innovative open-source focused companies, including:<ul><li>Commonfate provides a framework for managing permissions across complex cloud environments by automating and securing permissions to infrastructure and internal applications. Define secure access rules and enable teams to work quickly and securely by default and enable fast workflows for access when it’s needed (Chris Norman, CTO &amp; Co-Founder).</li><li>Snowplow is a leading open source Data Creation technology and the third most adopted web tracker, behind Google Analytics and Facebook. With their unique approach to Data Creation, which extends far beyond web behavioural analytics, users can manage customer data in a highly secure first-party environment. Snowplow’s open source schema registry, Iglu, ensures the data created adheres to defined schema definitions, while enabling the methodical management of schema updates as data needs evolve (Alex Dean, CEO &amp; Co-Founder).</li><li>W﻿eaveWorks makes it fast and simple for developers and DevOps teams to build and operate powerful containerized applications, minimising the complexity of operating workloads in Kubernetes.
