About this event

  • Event lasts 4 hours

Please join The LRM for a very special First Sunday to celebrate the launch* of my book The Feminist Art of Walking (Pluto Press) and the forthcoming tour.**

The event is free, but ticketed due to limited capacity - if the event is showing as sold out please join the waiting list as we will try to reconfigure the room to accomodate everyone if possible.

I want to thank everyone who has helped make this happen so I am taking over one of my favourite pubs for:

  • Readings and chat about The Feminist Art of Walking
  • Performance walk to The Eagle (optional, 2pm, starting location TBC)
  • The Cake Map Part Three: Beyond Manchester
  • Random psychogeographical shenanigans
  • A treasury of lovely loiterers to mingle with (or ignore if you prefer)
  • A few special treats and a chance to buy the book* directly from me, at mates rates.

* The book isn’t actually officially out until the 20th October, so technically this is an exclusive preview event as I wanted the party to be on a First Sunday. And it’s the LRM and timey whimey stuff

**Full details of the national tour to follow, if you can't make it to Salford for the launch I would love to see you at one of those dates. Locations so far confirmed are Edinburgh, Manchester, Sheffield, Eastbourne, Newport, Glossop, Liverpool, London, Birmingham and Nottingham.

The Walk

More information nearer the time, it will a bit of a wander, slow paced and story sharing, winding our way towards The Eagle. We will stick to public space in Manchester and Salford, but you know what the state of the pavements are like so be prepared for uneven surfaces. Please ask if you have any questions or access needs

Times

Walk starts 2pm

Doors at The Eagle open 3.30pm (pub itself opens at 3pm)

Book stuff 4-5ish (schedul to follow)

Room closes 8pm (the pub is open later)

Access Information

We’ve booked a room downstairs in The Eagle, you access it through the pub. There will be a mix of standing and seating, and some seats are upstairs on the balcony. There is plenty of outside seating as well. I’m really sorry but the venue is 18 years + only. Please get in touch if you have any specific access needs, or want to reserve a seat, and I will do my best to help.

About The Feminist Art of Walking

https://www.plutobooks.com/9780745350998/the-feminist-art-of-walking/

'Rose evocatively demonstrates the power of walking as not only a source of individual connection to place, but as a critical form of collective engagement that helps us rediscover, and fight for, what matters to our communities'

- Leslie Kern, author of Feminist City: Claiming Space in a Man-Made World

'An essential study of overlooked and under-appreciated aspects of the history of women’s walking as radical resistance and creative practice. Important, thought-provoking and fascinating work'

- Polly Atkin, poet and author of Some of Us Just Fall

'A moving and delightful wander through the personal and the political in walking. A feminist manifesto for everyone who has felt the oppression of the city and wants to claim it back as a place of joy'

- Paula Serafini, Senior Lecturer in Creative and Cultural Industries, Queen Mary University of London
