The First Stitch panel

The First Stitch panel

Overview

The First Stitch panel takes place on the closing night of its accompanying exhibition, in collaboration with Westminster City Archives.

Celebrating play, experimentation and the joy of making, the discussion brings together guest speakers across UAL to challenge today’s result-driven landscape and champion the value of process.

The garments on display emerge from a community project where students are taught sewing skills to celebrate their creativity, development, and early experiences of making. Hosted in the Wolfson space, the panel surrounds the audience with expressions of curiosity and discovery. These conversations aim to reflect on the joy and wonder that is often overlooked by grading systems. Join us for the final chance to experience the exhibition and contribute to an important conversation within fashion and creative education.

To remind one another of our First Stitch.

The panel consists of a series of presentations from UAL staff and students whose expertise and experience enhance the topics of discussion. Towards the end of the panel, there will be an open Q&A where the audience are invited to ask questions and to also, express their own perspective on the subject.
