Overview

Join us for an amazing, eclectic mix of contemporary folk

The Foehn Effect's music has been described as being as powerful and emotive as

the natural phenomenon from which they take their name. Much like this weather

event, their music may be gentle and soothing but conversely turbulent and

visceral. Broadly describing their music as Contemporary Folk, The Foehn Effect

refuses to be limited by the boundaries of genre, drawing on influences as diverse

as Leonard Coehn to Massive Attack.

The band released their second studio album 'The Mountain Road Home' in 2024

followed by ‘The Hummingbirds Keeper’ EP in Nov 25 and are currently scheduling

a Spring tour for 2026.

The Foehn Effect is a meteorological phenomenon occurring in the mountains. The

prevailing wind harrows against the slopes, pushing moisture upwards, creating

cooler and often wetter conditions on the windward side. In contrast, on the

leeward side, strongly overheated winds rush down the mountain. It can be

devastating yet beautiful, creating both wildfire and stunning vistas. The Foehn

Effects music encapsulates this phenomenon. It can favour melancholy and

sadness before transporting you to joy and comfort. Like the wind on the

mountain, it can change mood and emotion.

The Foehn Effect's music is certainly visceral, powerful and ultimately liberating for

the soul.

The band, who now live under their own mountain in mid Wales, felt the Foehn

wind calling to a more personal project. A sibilant breeze drew them to where their

hearts felt happiest, creating music which reflects love, loss, the human experience

and our turbulent affair with nature.

Phil Maguire and the Balladeers

Phil Maguire is a folk and blues musician from South East London that has been touring their unique blend of contemporary and traditional folk/rock music for over 10 years. A life of gigging on the road birthed a couple of singles that were followed by the EP ‘The Church Bell’ in early 2022. 2023 then saw the release of his debut album ‘Valley Of My Dreams’. A contemporary folk record steeped in the tradition. Over the past 10 years Phil has toured extensively across the UK including notable shows at Green Man & Glastonbury Festival.

In 2025 Phil supported The Wellermen at a sold out O2 Academy Islington show and maintained a busy gigging schedule. 2026 will see Phil’s second album, a more blues and folk/rock record, will be released into the world. Phil performs solo but more than often is seen on stage with his band as ‘Phil Maguire and the Balladeers’.

Notable performances:

Glastonbury Festival, Green Man Festival, The Troubadour, Spiritual Records, The Louisiana, Home Farm Festival, Green Note, The Jamboree, O2 Academy Islington & Ain’t Nothin’ But The Blues.
