Event description

Description

Far too many developer cliches are toxic. Lone workers, overstressed and underslept, bashing away on a keyboard all hours of the day. Is it helping any of us?

We owe it to ourselves to strive for professional fulfilment.

Please join us for a grounded discussion about how to make this a reality. For us as developers, for us as managers and for us as organisations.

  • How do you identify a fulfilled team?
  • What’s my responsibility to fix?
  • How do I ensure my whole team is energised?

A small £5 fee is charged to ensure capacity for committed attendees.

Agenda:

18:30 - 19:15 Welcome Drinks + Networking

19:15 - 20:15 Panel Discussion + Q&A

20:15 - 21:00 Networking Drinks and yummy food

Food for all dietary requirements will be provided.

The Panel:

Jo Franchetti - Web Developer Advocate for Samsung Internet

Jo is passionate about VR, Web Bluetooth, PWAs and great CSS. She’s got seven years experience as a front end developer and has worked in various parts of the tech industry from startups, agencies, charities to large organisations. She is also a mentor and organiser at codebar.io where she is able to action her passion not only for teaching good use of the web but also for improving the diversity and inclusivity of the tech industry.

Ben Furber - Developer and consultant for thoughtbot

Ben decided to do the opposite that most do and become a developer having spent nearly a decade in design, website management and product ownership roles in non-profits (plus a stint as startup founder). He’s too often seen technologists treated like widget makers and so is always working to ensure teams do things of value for themselves as well as their employer.

Melody King - Product Owner for Ieso Digital Health

Melody is blessed to work with an amazing bunch of people attempting to defeat mental illness with a combination of cognitive behavioural therapists, software and artificial intelligence. Passionate about getting the best out of people by aligning their enthusiasms with the needs of the business.

Kay Lack - Director of Academy at Makers

Kay is a software engineering coach and aspiring leader, currently director of the academy team at Makers — helping transform lives by accelerating junior developers' careers. She loves helping people succeed on their own terms, whether they're her students, colleagues, or clients.

Itti Singh - Frontend Developer for Ieso Digital Health

Itti’s role involves having one foot in the world of design and the other in software engineering. He loves his job, team, and most importantly, that they work to provide great tools and service in the mental health tech space.

We support the Diversity Charter and will be using Mozilla's code of conduct for the event.
