Join us for an eight mile walk around the whole (well almost) of Forvie National Nature Reserve. We’ll start at the Visitor Centre, climb to the highest point of the reserve (its not that high!), cross the moor, follow the river Ythan for a bit, cross the dunes to the beach (avoiding the protected ternery and seal haul out), back up the beach and along the cliffs to finish at the Visitor Centre. Forvie NNR is internationally recognised for its importance for birds, other wildlife, and its geomorphology. We’ll look at the very special wildlife and habitats of the reserve, through the changing landscape of heath, estuary, dunes, beach, cliffs and lochs.. We’ll learn how people and ice have shaped the way it is today, and hear the stories of the buried village, maidens’ curse and a lost elephant. This is a long walk (~8miles)so please make sure you are physically able and have appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather on the day. Some bits of the moor can be quite boggy so please wear waterproof walking footwear.
No dogs please
Please bring a packed lunch including drink and snack.
Please wear suitable clothing and footwear for weather conditions on the day.
Paths are mixed – surfaced, grass, sand, mud. There are some inclines and steps.
