EVENT SUMMARY

Across Greater Lincolnshire (including Rutland and South Humber), the Sport Physical Activity and Leisure sector has a GVA of £788m with 1200 companies and a further 1200 charities providing services in the sector - and a paid workforce of 28,000 people.

This online event will focus on creating a shared understanding the impact of the cost of living crisis on the sector and how we can work together to develop a resilient and relevant workforce, underpinned by a recent research report.

ABOUT

The physical activity sector, its workforce and businesses have been significantly affected by the cost of living crisis. Cost of ‘doing business’ has escalated, individuals ability to participate has decreased and their needs are changing; yet the health and wellbeing of our population is an essential component of economically prosperous places and vibrant communities. The sector has recruitment and retention challenges.

Commissioned by three Active Partnerships (Active Lincolnshire, Active Humber and Active Together), the Lincolnshire Open Research and Innovation Centre (LORIC) at BG University, Lincoln produced a report ‘The Understanding the Economic Impact and Future Potential of Greater Lincolnshire’s Sport, Physical Activity & Leisure Sector’ following a 5-month study.

An active population supports greater economic prosperity
Physical inactivity creates a burden on employers and the health and care system
The physical activity, sport and leisure sector includes a high number of small providers and businesses who need more support to survive and thrive
The physical activity offer available in our place needs to be relevant to the needs and demographics of our population
The sector needs to be supported to develop a more targeted and relevant offer
The physical activity sector workforce needs support to be more reflective of the diversity of our populations and their needs

This event will bring together partners within the sector and outside to reflect on the learning and consider the report recommendations and how we can support this sector to survive and thrive.

Hear from Active Lincolnshire, Sport England, Local Enterprise Partnerships, as well as the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and CIMSPA.
