The global research space as both collaborative and performative

Wednesday, Feb 4, 2026 from 1 pm to 2 pm GMT
Overview

Simon Marginson gives the second in PARC's Seminar Series.

Don't Miss PARC Seminar #2 with Simon Marginson!

Abstract/description

The world of higher education and scientific knowledge is changing. It is no longer simply a centre-periphery order led and controlled by European and American countries.

Though the West still makes the rules and its dominance is fading only slowly, non-Western university systems in Asia and Latin America are growing rapidly and now produce a majority of the world’s science between them.

The rules may have to change in future, for example by admitting languages other than English to the global conversation.

Sub-Saharan Africa still lacks the necessary funding and infrastructure but regional cooperation is becoming more important in different parts of the world and opens up new possibilities for the continent.

Speaker: Professor Simon Marginson, Emeritus Professor of Higher Education

Chair: Dr Rafael Mitchell, Senior Lecturer in Education

For in-person attendees, the event will be followed by light refreshments in situ.
