The Hardware Hour

Startupbootcamp IoT is a growth program for IoT and hardware startups, helping them validate, build and grow their business. Every year an intensive 3-month program is run for up to 10 startups, all of whom are working on either a consumer or industrial IoT solution. In this time the startups undergo a range of workshops around product development, investor relations and marketing, whilst being able to draw on the expertise and knowledge of influential mentors, hardware professionals, corporate partners and potential investors. Teams from across the world can apply to join the program which is based at Techspace Shoreditch.

Startupbootcamp IoT

The Hardware Hour is a breakfast meetup in which Raph Crouan, MD of Startupbootcamp IoT, runs an informal Q&A with a founder who is in the process of growing their hardware startup. On July 26th that founder is Emily Brooke MBE from Blaze, the company behind the green Laserlight you see projecting from Santander bikes in London at night. Blaze creates innovative products for urban cyclists with technology and design at the core and Emily was recently awarded an MBE in the Queen’s birthday honours for her services to the economy and transport.
Hear from Emily about the journey she’s gone through to build Blaze, what’s worked well, what hasn’t, and the major lessons she’s learned along the way.
The Hardware Hour begins at 08:15 with breakfast and coffee provided. Our 25-minute Q&A starts promptly at 08.30, followed by questions from the audience and any community announcements. Finishing up at 09.15, everyone can then head into work a little less hungry and a little more knowledgeable.

There are lots of great events in London that aim to share startup success stories. However, these are often based on the experiences of software startups and not enough cater to an audience of hardware entrepreneurs looking for, closing, or using their Seed round. Our aim is to have entrepreneurs share their real-time progress in a way that distills some of the myths around hardware businesses, and helps the next wave of startups get to market quicker.
