Course Title: The HEARTS Process Teachers Course

Description: This two-day course aims to equip HEARTS Practitioners with the confidence and skills to teach HEARTS to colleagues in the workplace. By the end of the course, participants will have learned more about making presentations to managers, considered the relevance of adult learning styles, explored the pros and cons of various teaching methods, and developed skills in planning short courses and individual sessions. Other topics will include preparation for staff training, following up after the training, and monitoring and evaluation. We will also use examples from existing teachers in a variety of situations. The skills we cover during the course are transferable to other topics and situations; a comprehensive training manual will be included.

Note: The Integrated Therapies Training Unit (ITTU) continuously strives to provide current, evidence-based educational events to equip Integrative Therapists and Health Care Professionals with relevant skills and knowledge to apply in their roles.

Although many of the courses discuss ways of adapting practice when providing therapies to patients with a cancer diagnosis, we maintain that the aims of our educational events are to increase understanding of cancer and the delivery of suitable complementary therapies for therapeutic purposes in this patient cohort. Therapies are to be offered alongside medical treatment as a means to enhance physical and psychological wellbeing, and never as a treatment for the underlying cancer.
