The Improviser's Way Intensive

What is it?
This is an intensive study week for longform improvisers following the 12-part structure of The Improviser's Way workbook, led by the author, Katy Schutte. As well as warm-ups, scenework and practising forms we will also be taking the time to discuss recent shows (including jam nights) and any triumphs or problems arising from our work. It is a flexible course and study group that will address individual blocks and habits involved in the journey through improv. We will be feeling out the ratio of improv to sit-down-discussion time as we go. We will be looking at our development as longform improvisers.
Topics include: Improv basics, trust, character, creative editing, openings, theatre, personal superpowers, style, form, show feedback, community, group dynamics, goal-setting and support.
Class size is limted to fourteen students. Class days will be from 10am-5pm with an hour for lunch. The class will take place at the Nursery Training Centre by London Bridge station.
Who is it for?
Curious improvisers who want to analyse their work more carefully and/or move into a new area of longform improvisation. Ideally the group will be a mix of experienced as well as newer longform improvisers who are interested in working together to develop the art form at their own level. There is no one style or school of improvisation favoured here; just the desire to stretch and learn from one-another in a group setting.
Teachers and longform veterans are more than welcome. The minimum requirement for attendees is that you have performed longform improvisation on stage regularly for at least a year and received training to an intermediate level at any improv school.

About your teacher
Katy is an actor, writer, comedian, director and improviser. She trained in Drama at the University of Hull before finding her true passion at iO Chicago, Second City Chicago and with teachers from Annoyance, UCB and other world class improv training schools. Katy has been a member of the award-winning Maydays since their founding year in 2004. She has performed in a twoprov with Rachel Blackman for over a decade and in science fiction show Project2 since 2012. Katy is a Funny Women Finalist, a sketch comedian and has written and starred in several acclaimed live comedy shows including Schutte the Unromantic and Who Ya Gonna Call? a fan-tribute musical. You can often catch her in nerdy comedy shows and TV commercials. Katy lives in London and teaches and performs all over the world.
