We chat with local legend Graeme Watson about the Belfast Comedy scene, his role in getting it going, and what happened when it went nuts

It's time for a new season of The Incrementals. We've a new venue and we're going to do it every two months instead of every quarter because... well because we've actually just loved telling the stories of Belfast's arts scene that no-one else seems to give a shit about.This episode we'll be joined by Graeme Watson. You probably don't know who he is but there's people selling out shows in the SSE off the back of his work. We've worked with Graeme for over 15 years, he hasn't been about as much recently but we think his work has an amazing legacy and also he's funny as f*ck so it shuld be a good one.Here's his bio...Graeme Watson was a producer, promoter and programmer of live comedy and spoken word events in Belfast from 2008-2020. A leading light in the development of Belfast’s now thriving stand-up comedy scene, Graeme’s mission was to develop diverse comedy talent and comedy audiences through his production company The Infinite Jest. As well as programming regular weekly and monthly comedy clubs for venues such as the Black Box and Ulster Sports Club, over the years Graeme has also collaborated frequently on live comedy formats and events with Seedhead Arts, the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, Stendhal Festival of Art, the Crescent Arts Centre, the NI Human Rights Festival, the NI Science Festival and more. Graeme was a co-founder and former chair of the Belfast Comedy Festival which ran from 2012-2016, and singlehandedly ran the annual, month-long Comedy Lab fringe season in the Black Box (2015-2020). Graeme also co-developed two seasons of BBC Radio Ulster’s award-winning Live at the Sunflower stand-up show with producer Owen McFadden. He currently lives a quiet life working as a graphic designer and communications officer in Higher Education.
