Live-mixing documentary footage with sound art, the artists will perform alongside four of the city’s outstanding musicians: Phonetic, Bobbie Johnson, Marshall Mandiangu and Ollie Hutch. At the performance on 15 July, using film footage and sound captured from across Brighton to create an audio-visual instrument, Andreas and Polina will present a live-scored immersive documentary, collaborating with four music artists who developed tracks especially for their appearance.“The performance features film and sound cut up and prepared for live triggering during the event, making it a unique experience. This concept of a non-linear, live edited documentary allows us to constantly develop and re-present the work in different contexts such as in museums, clubs or online and to include other artists in the performance. Thus, the subjects are never represented in a fixed way. We want to break down ‘the fourth wall’ and create a documentary experience where exchange can occur through close listening and interaction.” – Andreas KühneProceeds from General Admission tickets will go towards supporting AudioActive and Lighthouse's work with young people (Lighthouse Young Creatives).Parental Guidance: explicit language and sensitive content (mention of suicide) may be used in this show.<h3>COVID-19 safety</h3>The event capacity is 100 people total. The event will take place outside and you will be required to wear a face-covering (unless exempt), register with NHS Track &amp; Trace, and observe social distancing of two metres. ﻿﻿We appreciate your cooperation:<ul><li>﻿﻿Please arrive on time (8:50pm) so we can get everyone inside the performance area safely. </li><li>Upon arrival you will be asked to sign in via NHS Track &amp; Trace app or sign-up sheet.</li><li>You will be asked to wear a mask for the duration of the event (unless you are medically exempt).</li><li>Please observe social distancing rules and keep 2m apart from those outside your household or bubble.</li></ul><h3>Access information</h3><ul><li>The performance will happen at Jubilee Square in a fenced-off area.</li><li>Jubilee Square has step-free access and is wheelchair accessible.</li><li>There will be no toilets or baby-changing facilities in the event area, but a member of staff will be able to direct you to the nearest public toilet.</li><li>Assistance dogs are welcome and can be provided with a bowl of water.</li><li>Seats (chairs) would be available on site upon request for anyone who finds standing for the entirety of the event difficult or undesirable.</li><li>Please email info@lighthouse.org.uk with any questions, we are committed to ensuring you have the best possible time during the event.</li></ul><h3>ABOUT THE ARTISTS:</h3>Andreas KühneAndreas Kühne (1988, the Netherlands) is an improviser, sound artist, and drummer. His art practice involves creating audiovisual works and field improvisations by revealing the musical qualities of on-site inert objects with live electronic setups for real-time generation and manipulation.He is a Master of Music graduate from the ArtEZ University of Arts, and the founder and curator of the interdisciplinary concert series RAMSES/ MPRO in Amsterdam.Recent performances include; A4 cultural space, Bratislava; Lofoten International Art Festival, Solvaer; Sonic Acts Festival, Amsterdam; Inversia Festival, Murmansk; Muziekgebouw, Amsterdam; Overkill Festival, Enschede; State of Fashion Exhibition, Arnhem; Dutch National Opera &amp; Ballet, Amsterdam.Polina MedvedevaPolina Medvedeva is a Russian-Dutch (documentary) filmmaker and artist based in Amsterdam. Her work researches the notion of informality, focusing on informal economies and non-conformist communal structures, their principles influencing the aesthetics of her videos.Medvedeva’s works have been exhibited at Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, WIELS Contemporary Art Centre, Brussels; Al-Ma’mal Foundation for Contemporary Art, Jerusalem; Rotterdam City Theatre; Art Brussels; Centre of Fine Arts Groningen; De Nieuwe Vide gallery, Haarlem and screened during IDFA Docs for Sale and on VPRO among others.PhoneticPhonetic is an artist who is already synonymous with Brighton’s thriving hip hop scene – thanks to her skills on the mic, combined with her unwavering creative drive. That drive and talent go way beyond her 21 years and they are good signifiers as to why she has already earned support slots for a number of notable artists and acts, including Rag’N’Bone Man, Children of Zeus, Skinnyman, LEVELZ, Dr Syntax and Amy True.Phonetic continues to build her career with more live shows and collaborations, as well as her very first solo project – The Dictionary of Proverbs LP – which promises to launch into the UK scene and beyond.M KudoHailing from West-London, 22 year old Marshall Mandiangu is a singer-songwriter, dancer, music producer and energetic live performer. Inspired by legends such as Michael Jackson &amp; James Brown; Marshall effortlessly meanders through an eclectic blend of R&B/soul, pop, rock, hip hop, world, gospel and funk. Never afraid of getting personal, he will sing about everything from the universe, break-ups, and, of course, letting his hair down and having a dance.Following the success of his rap career under his former alias “CM17 Sho Sho” and graduating from BIMM Brighton; he hooked up with Gi3MO of Rum Committee after the pair met at AudioActive and this marked the beginning of an extremely prolific studio-run. At the end of the decade, Marshall was presented with the “Simon D’Souza Music Award” by AudioActive, an accolade achieved for his enthusiasm and energy towards music.Bobbie JohnsonBobbie Johnson is a Rapper/Producer coming out of the sunny seaside city Brighton (UK). Her work spans conscious thought and social commentary, as showcased on her latest EPs ‘You &amp; I’ and ‘The Defier’. Over the past few years, she has been supporting the likes of Rag’N’Bone Man, Roots Manuva, The Pharcyde + many many more and played festival stages around the UK and Europe. She has gained the nickname of ‘Rapping Adele’ – increasing her fan base with every show she commands, promoting the new age voice of hip hop.﻿﻿Ollie Hutch﻿﻿﻿An innovative, self-taught young artist, Hutch is both a rapper, singer and songwriter with a diverse catalogue of releases, a multi-instrumental versatility and a distinctive style that places him firmly alongside the UK’s most promising creatives in the Hip-Hop and Jazz scene. ﻿﻿Growing up, Ollie Hutch took stock of innumerable genres and influences throughout the refinement of his sound. From birth he was exposed to Blues, Jazz, Motown, Soul and Funk via his family, and consequently grew alongside a broadening collection of inspirations that include George Clinton, Al Green, Alice Coltrane, Oscar Peterson and more. This crucial, ongoing supply of historical music spawned an understanding of how to cross boundaries and interweave genres, expediting his ability to blend anything from UK grime to Soul and Jazz into idiosyncratic, outlandish narratives.The Informals II is a new commission by Lighthouse and Brighton Festival, with support from Re-Imagine Europe, co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, Mondriaan Fund and Creative Industries Fund NL. The Informals was originally commissioned by Sonic Acts and Inversia Festival, Murmansk. Thanks to AudioActive for introductions and supporting the artists to align this project with the talent across the city.
