SATURDAY SINGERS! You have a song to learn! We'll be singing Deke's arrangement of the Miley Cyrus hit The Climb. It's in three parts, so pick a part that feels comfortable (male voices you may like to sing the alto part and octave down) and sing along! Workshop 2: Sunday 10am - 1pm for choir and vocal group directors.The Fielden Centre, TodmordenDeke will be showing particpants how to create a strong, emotive perforkmance and how we can assist our singers to connect to the song, grow our singers' confidence and improve pitching, blend and musicality and incorprate movement.
Deke has over 30 years experience working with singers of all abilities around the world imparting his knowledge and cutting edge contemporary a cappella training.

Accessibility
Hope Baptist Church: A DDA compliant ramp allows stepless access to the main chapel on New Road, from where there is level access throughout the ground floor. All ground floor rooms are wheelchair accessible, including one modified toilet space. A steeper ramp is installed at the side access on Hope Street

There is parking available in the grounds of the Hall. Public transport links are very good.

For the one-day event on Saturday 22nd January , you are advised to bring your own packed lunch, or you are of course welcome to visit one of the many local coffee shops and eateries within short walking distance of the venue. There will be rooms available in the venue where you can take breaks/ eat a packed lunch

Deke has over 30 years’ experience working with singers of all abilities around the world imparting his knowledge and cutting edge contemporary a cappella training.
About the organisers of the event
Ailsa Nicholson is a dynamic, experienced choral director, singer and vocal tutor with a passion for getting singers of all abilities together to immerse themselves in the wonders of a cappella (unaccompanied) harmony singing. Ailsa specialises in delivering group contemporary vocal technique to help people find their voices in an effective, efficient, musical way. Formed in January 2019, Ailsa’s choir, Vocal Highs offer sumptuous a cappella takes on some of the greatest pop, indie and soul and intersperse their set with emotive new takes on timeless folk songs. Featuring some standout solos from fabulous singers from the region, Vocal Highs interweave their unique arrangements with a good dose of heart fuelled harmonies.: Emotive performances that are guaranteed to leave the audience on a vocal high.
Covid Safety
As this is a singing event, please bring your Covid vaccination pass ( unless medically exempt) and evidence of a recent negative lateral flow test. We strongly encourage the use of masks when walking about the venue.
Covid Safety measures for Attendance at The Joy of Harmony Event Hope Church March 19th 2022
Many COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted at the time of planning and we will comply with any further guidance in place at the time of the event. We have taken the view for this event that it is important that we should remain thoughtful about the potential for infection as it is a singing event which will have participants from near and far and is taking place in a venue which is also a working church. We would appreciate your cooperation with these measures to help to make our event both enjoyable and safe.
Please be aware that attendance is at your own risk It is important to remember that attitudes towards risk and COVID-19 differ from person to person and we ask you to be respectful and considerate of those who may wish to take a more cautious approach than you.
Lateral Flow Tests
• If you can, we would appreciate it if you could take a Covid lateral flow test in the 24 hours prior to the event. Lateral Flow Tests are still free until 1st April.
Don’t attend if you feel unwell
• Please don’t attend if you are unwell, have Covid symptoms or a positive result.
• Even if your lateral flow test result is negative, you should not attend if you feel unwell or have any of the symptoms: elevated temperature, continuous cough, loss of smell and taste or you have been in recent close/prolonged contact with someone who has tested positive
When you arrive
• Join the queue On arrival at the venue please join the queue and maintain your distance from others. Access will be via the side entrance on Hope Street. There is also a DDA compliant ramp for access from New Road
• Check-in and register Please ensure your name is ticked off on the register of participants
During the Event
• Be aware of those around you. While social distancing is no longer enforced, please continue to be aware of those around you, especially in busier areas and when queueing. Our aim is for you to enjoy the event and to meet others, but also to avoid large groups ‘clumping together’ indoors , so we would encourage you to chat to each other in fresh air.
• Seating Seating is not numbered. However, stewards will direct you to seating which will be spaced out to ensure that places are filled efficiently and safely. Please be aware that we will be using upstairs gallery space as well as the main chapel which has disabled access. There is no lift to the upstairs areas.
• Toilets The toilets are in a narrow corridor so we’ll be operating a queuing system outside the corridor and managing access to avoid congestion in the corridor. A one-way system to return to the main venue will be in place
• Hand Hygiene Please take sensible precautions, use hand sanitiser and wash your hands regularly.
• Lunchtime and Refreshments For this event, we will provide light refreshments from 10am and in the afternoon break and you are welcome to bring your own drinks and lunches. There are also many cafes and eateries close to Hope Chapel. During break and lunchtime, there will be additional rooms on the ground and upper floors which will be available for you to use if you wish.
• Ventilation Hope Church is equipped with an up-to-date mechanical ventilation system which introduces fresh, air, none of which is recirculated. Where possible we will also open windows and doors to allow in fresh air, but advise you to wear layers/bring warm clothes in case of cold
When you Leave the Event We will manage the end of the event by asking you to leave section by section to avoid congestion at doorways.
