<P><SPAN>Increasingly, self-directed and self-determined learning play a part in maintaining and driving performance but it’s not good enough to provide content and expect people to muddle along and learn on the job.  We need learners to use the best methods based on neuroscience and psychology to make the most of what’s available. They need to distinguish between </SPAN>how to learn skills versus acquiring knowledge.  They need to learn and unlearn to keep up with accelerating change. They need the skills of meta-learning – learning how to learn – before we waste any more time, energy or resources on ineffective methods, many of which date back to before the industrial revolution.</P>
