The Media Society: Truth and Power with BBC Radio and Czech Radio

The Media Society is delighted to be able to offer 30 of its members an exclusive place at the BBC's Truth and Power Conference.
This year sees the centenary of the founding of Czechoslovakia and 50 years since the Prague Spring. To mark the occasion, two of Europe’s oldest national broadcasters are coming together, along with other members of the European Broadcasting Union, to debate our future in a rapidly changing media and political landscape.
The conference will be chaired by the broadcaster and former Managing Director of the BBC World Service, Sir John Tusa. Sessions will include:
- From the First World War to the internet - a century of Truth vs Power (Introduced by Sir John Tusa)
- The Digital Horizon: keynote by James Purnell, Director of BBC Radio & Education
- The Future for Public Service Media: Dr David Levy, Director of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford University
All sessions will include panel discussions and opportunities for participation from the floor. A more detailed programme, including panellists, will be sent shortly. The conference is by invitation only.
There is no fee but participants are expected to meet their own costs. The conference is supported by the Czech Ambassador to the United Kingdom, H. E. Libor Sečka, and will be followed by an evening reception hosted by the Ambassador at his residence in London. Separate invitations will be sent to confirmed participants.
Please note that in order for security badges to be issued on arrival at BBC Broadcasting House, and for invitations to be issued for the Czech Embassy reception, all booking details for attendeees will be disclosed to the BBC and to the Czech Embassy. Personal details on the booking form have been kept to a minimum to require the name of each attendee and a contact e-mail address. In addition a mobile phone number and an office phone number have been asked for in the event of any query arising or the need to contact an attendee urgently.
