81 Acts of Exuberant Defiance - Meet The Menders

This April 2021 is the 40th anniversary of the 1981 Uprisings in Brixton. 81 Acts of Exuberant Defiance is an ambitious year-long community led programme of creative, cultural and heritage &#x27;Acts&#x27; commemorating those legendary events by inviting you to revisit those moments, ask what has changed, explore issues at stake and learn from this history of struggle. With 81 Acts of Exuberant Defiance kicking off in Brixton and rippling across the country in &#x27;Activating a radical reclaiming of heritage - to imagine, experiment and build new futures&#x27; join The Menders to learn more about this &#x27;flagship Act&#x27; - Mending Room and them building on the spirit and legacy of 81 Acts of Exuberant Defiance.The initial Mending Room was a coming together and collaboration of a number of multidisciplinary practitioners connected to Brixton over ten weekly workshops led by theatrical facilitator Tony Cealy. The task set was to &#x27;Mend, Back, Brixton&#x27;. Using techniques taken from Design Fiction/Speculative Design The Menders produced innovative solutions to identified issues which were then put to public scrutiny.The session will focus around the development and journey of the Mending Room, our experience as The Menders, its potential moving forward and a Q&amp;A.
