The New Cold War and Trump 2.0 - Prof Barry Buzan's keynote address
The term “New Cold War” has gained prominence as global politics enters a period of renewed great power rivalry, at the same time as the Anthropocene crises deepens and the Western order shifts to deep pluralization. Join us as Professor Barry Buzan discusses the new Cold War and the impact of “Trump 2.0” on these dynamics. In a great power international society dominated by the fascist/far-right and China, can Europe stand its ground? Will conflict escalate, or re-set thinking about world order towards some form of Cold Peace?Barry Buzan is a globally leading voice in the field of International Relations, and an Emeritus Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). His seminal work "People, States and Fear" has shaped generations of thinking on security in international relations, especially through the theoretical framework of securitization.
His most recent book, Timelines for Modernity: Rethinking Periodization for Global International Relations (2023), offers a bold reimagining of modern history by proposing a more inclusive periodization of modernity by rethinking its periodization for a truly Global IR.
