Simon Hamilton and Sharon Simpson discuss the important role lighting can play in interior design, how art and colour can come alive through the right light. Discover interior design through a beautiful and interesting lens of light, art and colour.
Simon Hamilton is a London born interior designer, lecturer and careers mentor. His experience as a creative spans more than three decades. After working for several practices then as a freelancer, he set up his first interior design consultancy in 2002.
During his career, Simon has translated his industry experience to specialize in design recruitment for architects and designers to clients in the U.K., Europe and Asia. This also included 4 years volunteering as International Director for the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID), hosting events in the US, Europe and Asia as an ambassador for the design body.
Coupled with his passion for sharing his design experience and mentoring talent, Simon established Design Career Consulting in 2019 providing comprehensive career advice services to private clients and universities including Heriot-Watt University, the University of East London and Nottingham Trent University to name a few. As a visiting lecturer for The Interior Design School, The Royal College of Art and The University of The Arts London, Simon works directly with a variety of design educators.
He is also a consultant and campaigner for diversity and inclusion across the industry. In this capacity, he works closely with the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID), the University of Plymouth for their Equality and Diversity initiative : The Gateway Project and with United in Design on their Resource Hub and Apprenticeship Programme.
As a keynote speaker and presenter, Simon hosted the Surface Design Awards earlier this year and is a jury member for the Interior Design Sustainability Category for the Dezeen Awards, the International Property Awards and DNA Paris Design Awards 2022.
Sharon Simpson is an emerging talent in the interior design industry. She brings with her a fresh and different approach believing design can improve confidence by being bolder with our interior choices.
Having successfully reimagined her own home after a period of illness, she discovered the importance of using emotion when designing, decorating & styling our homes.
Working exclusively in the residential market, Sharon attracts clients who are looking for a more dynamic, personality driven interior. Her style has been described as “Bold, Edgy, Urban, Rock ‘n’ Roll Opulence”.
Her work was featured in Reclaim Magazine Jan 2022 and Sharon is a key member of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee for the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID).
Sharon was a panelist of Design London for The London Design Festival September 2021, alongside Simon Hamilton, Tash South and Alexandria Dauley. At the sold out event, Sharon shared her experience and her vision on the future of design.
She was also a featured speaker for ND Educates, a series of inspiring talks, workshops and practical advice from leading professionals in the design industry. Sharon contributed her knowledge on how to get started in interior design after graduation.
Her first home décor range is a selection of colourful and unique designs which celebrate black female beauty entitled ‘The Rununculus Collection’ which is available on her website. Sharon lives with her family in north London where her lucky clients also reside.
