The Physarum Experiments

Heather Barnett’s art practice engages with natural phenomena, collective behaviour and biological design, using diverse methods including printmaking and photography, animation and digital imaging, installation and participatory experimentation. Often working with living materials and imaging technologies, her work explores how we observe, influence and understand the world around us. She teaches on the MA Art and Science at Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts London) and chairs London LASER art and science talks.www.heatherbarnett.co.uk@HeatherABarnettNatalia Zagorska-Thomas is a visual artist, textile conservator and the owner/curator of Studio ExPurgamento in Camden Town.Her art practice is concerned with the agency of inanimate objects, the relationship between art object and the body and the collecting impulse. As a curator she is interested in exploring intersections between seemingly different creative disciplines, especially visual art, text, sound, scientific enquiry, performance and applied arts. She is a brand consultant and the founder of the PoetryFilm research art project. Her creative work explores semiotics and ranges between neon light, text, film and sound. Join Studio ExPurgamento curator, Natalia Zagorska-Thomas, and exhibiting artist, Heather Barnett, for an informal conversation about interspecies creativity, control and authorship. Referring to Barnett’s ongoing ‘collaboration’ with the intelligent slime mould, Physarum polycephalum, questions will explore the agency of organisms, nonhuman subjectivity, and interdisciplinary enquiry.

4pm - Sonic performance by Zata Banks
A sonic transcreation of a piece of visual art called "Warm/Hunger" featured in Maintenant 10(0), the annual anthology of contemporary Dada writing and art published by Three Rooms Press in New York. 2016 marked the 100 year anniversary of Dada.
