Are you ready to showcase your latest documentary work to the industry, but in need of helpful knowledge and coaching?

‘The Pitch’ can be one of the more daunting tasks on your journey as an independent documentary photographer. After weeks, months or even years of putting together a body of work – pitching your finished story is a combination of many factors, not least: passion, persistence, confidence in your work and timing. This workshop is for anyone who is ready to showcase their latest documentary work to the industry, but in need of helpful knowledge and coaching to take the next step. Documentary photographer and lecturer, Nicola Muirhead - published with TIME, the BBC, the Washington Post, the Smithsonian Magazine and National Geographic, amongst others - will lead the workshop and provide an insightful introduction on how to edit and market work for editorial and magazine publications; helping you draft a succinct and clear pitch of your work.The workshop will include:•	Tips on planning and executing a finished edit of work for publication•	Preparing a pitch for a magazine vs. book publishers vs. news media etc.•	Advice on how to research and find the right editor/publication/magazine for your work•	Examples of successful and unsuccessful pitches •	Final Presentation of your pitch – How many images? In what format? •	Managing expectations and forming connections with persons in the industryIf you have a completed project or have one in development, please do bring it along for group discussion and dialogue. This will be an intimate session, where participants are encouraged to share their work and be open to feedback!Nicola Muirhead is a documentary photographer and visual storyteller from the island of Bermuda, specializing in long-form projects and portraiture.
