Session 1: Thinking Cinematically

In this session, James will discuss with you some of the ‘big picture’ ideas about screenwriting and what it means to think of screenwriting as ‘filmmaking on paper’. Those ‘big picture’ issues include considering action as being so vital to cinematic storytelling and also the importance of setting to a story that you want to tell. James will refer to several specific film / screenplay examples. In his webinar, you are welcome to ask questions at any point and James will respond. Session 2: Thinking about Character

In this session, James will discuss with you some of the key considerations when it comes to creating characters in a screenplay How might you introduce a character ? Session 3: Genre

In this session, James will discuss with you the value of genre in helping you shape and develop your screenplay. James will talk through how genre can function and why it’s so valuable as a way of developing a story and as a key aspect of pitching your screenplay. Session 4: Getting Your Work Out there and Feeling Good about the process

Writing is not only creatively demanding. It can also make quite an impact on your sense of self as a writer. With that in mind, this session will take some time to explore wellbeing and the writing life in terms of responding to feedback (of all kinds) about one’s work and also in terms of getting your work ‘out there’ in relation to connecting with agents and producers and developing your networks. James will also use the session to indicate how you might begin to find a way to put your work ‘out there’. In his webinar, you are welcome to ask questions at any point and James will respond.
