This event marks ten years, to the day, since the Shard was formally inaugurated. The Shard – still London and Western Europe’s tallest building – has subsequently become a familiar London landmark and a common establishing shot or icon for the city, featuring in adverts, tourist promotions, films and TV programmes. But what does the Shard reveal about London since 2012? The Shard Decade will reflect on The Shard’s branding, function, position and symbolism. Combining presentations of recent academic research and a panel discussion, the event will seek to assess the Shard’s relationship with twenty-first century London.Panellists: tbcOrganised by Andrew Harris (UCL Geography) and Sidra Ahmed (UCL Geography).
