Speaker's Biography:
Katerina has worked in the audiovisual translation (AVT) industry for the past ten years, taking on a variety of roles. As a subtitler, she primarily translates a wide range of audiovisual content, from long-form programmes to trailers, from English into Greek. In her role as a quality control editor (QCer), she conducts both linguistic and technical checks on subtitles, offering constructive feedback and comments to fellow subtitlers. She also has experience in dubbing, having translated and adapted scripts for voiceover.
Katerina holds an MA in Audiovisual Translation and a PhD in Translation Studies, and has taught both translation theory and AVT practice at the postgraduate level.
In addition to her professional work, Katerina has published research on the emotional impact of subtitling sensitive content, as well as on coping strategies to help subtitlers manage and overcome such challenges. She has also been actively involved in wellbeing initiatives within the translation community, contributing to the development of self-care resources, organising individual and group support meetings, and fostering peer-to-peer support among professionals.
