Seminar 1 - Rain's Eye Plan

This unique depiction of life in Sunderland in the 1780s is an excellent starting point. The actual method of production of this so-called map is controversial but it is also intriguing as an introduction to the beginning of the growth of the Sunderland of the Industrial Revolution.

Local historian Stuart Miller examines six aspects of the development of modern Sunderland from the 1780s to the 1880s.

Each session will last for two hours including a break of 30 minutes to sample the coffee and cake of the Seventeen Nineteen coffee corner.

No prior knowledge is required. Simply an interest in the history of Sunderland, and a sense of humour!
