Beyond Representation: Shaping Culture in Tech
Representation in tech is only the starting point. The real question is how leadership translates visibility into meaningful change, influencing culture, creating space for others, and shaping the technologies and workplaces of the future.
This Third Thursday panel will explore the practical realities of leading from within. We will look at how visibility can become influence, and how leaders balance the responsibility of representation with staying true to their own leadership style. We will dig into mentorship and sponsorship, and why both matter in building careers that last.
The conversation will also examine leadership styles: what needs to be unlearned from traditional male-dominated environments, how inclusive behaviours ripple across organisations, and why moving away from "alpha" models creates stronger teams. We will consider the structural side too: what policies shift inclusion from being an initiative to being the norm, and how to measure cultural change beyond headcount.
Finally, we will tackle the hard questions: how to navigate subtle resistance, how allies can play a role without tokenism, and when it is time to work within the system, and when to disrupt it.
This will not just be a panel talk. Audience participation will be encouraged throughout. Whether you are leading a team, building a start-up, supporting colleagues, or simply curious about the future of tech culture, you will leave with fresh perspectives and practical actions to shape inclusion from within.
