Sound and Music is the national charity for new music in the UK.Our mission is to maximise the opportunities for people to create and enjoy new music.Our work includes composer and artist development, partnerships with a range of organisations, audience development, touring, information and advice, network building, and education.We champion new music and the work of British composers and artists, and seek to ensure that they are at the heart of cultural life and enjoyed by many.

<A HREF="http://lesliedeere.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Leslie Deere</A> and <A HREF="http://www.aftersound.co.uk/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jack James</A>, composers in residence on Sound and Music’s artistic development scheme, Embedded, present a showcase of their work developed during their 16 month residencies with Music Hackspace
Taking inspiration from their time at the Hackspace – a London based community for innovators and hobbyists passionate about music technology and sound art – both composers will present a snapshot of their diverse work exploring conceptual representations of musical composition, the audio-visual experience of music making and the aesthetics of audio-visual technology.  
The evening will be introduced by former Music Hackspace Embedded Composer in Residence <A HREF="http://timmb.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Tim Murray-Browne</A>.
The event will take place in <A HREF="https://www.cafeoto.co.uk/info/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cafe Oto's Project Space</A>. Doors at 6.30pm / Event  7-9pm. Tickets include free refreshments.  Due to size of the project space, seating will work on a first-come first-served basis.
Instructions to The Oval Car Park
Drawing from a period of social research into the locality surrounding Music Hackspace's home in Containerville during 2015, <A HREF="http://www.aftersound.co.uk/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jack James </A>presents his text-based-score Instructions to The Oval Car Park.  Through a performance lecture Jack will explore his use of compositional narrative to document ad hoc social conventions used to navigate The Oval in Bethnal Green, London as an informal car park.
When parking on The Oval, drivers park each other in and leave their mobile phone number on the car dashboard. Upon receiving calls, drivers leave nearby workplaces to let each other out, with cars moving and re parking periodically each day.

Modern Conjuring for Amateurs
Taking its title from the eponymous book by J.C. Cannell, a popular guide to learning tricks, conjuring and ventriloquism, <A HREF="http://lesliedeere.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Deere’s</A> performance will combine her performing arts dance background with her sonic arts training, as she creates a shared experience, conjuring up sound and visuals with gesture.
She will control sound and image through gesture, by way of Kinect camera and bespoke software. Drones, chimes, noise, field recordings, found audio, sounds from CERN and the Quantizer Sonification Project combine to create a lilting minimal evocative work.
