About this event
The space, designed like a garden, will take you through four themes: Deep Fakes, Surveillance and Privacy, Afrofutirsm and Abolition. Each contains unique art pieces, created by Identity 2.0 or a talented artist from a Black, Asian or underrepresented ethnic group.
The exhibition is supported by Leicester City Council and De Montfort Uni.

13th - 30th August 2021.
Weekdays it’ll be open 9am - 5pm, at weekend it’ll be 11am - 4pm.
The timings on the tickets reflect what time you can enter the exhibtion from. They do not reflect how long you have to stay at the exhibtion for.
Last Friday (27th August) is also LCB’s legendary Last Friday party, so we’ll be opening up the exhibition till later in the evening. Select tickets at checkout and receive free entry to Last Friday's fun (including live music and food).
Why a garden?
We were really inspired by Michael Foucalt’s concept of Heterotopias - spaces which resist or refuse societal norms. Gardens are an example of a Heterotopia as they are perceived as completely natural, but are actually organised and controlled by humans, much like Race and technology are. We want to break down the idea that race and technology have naturally evolved - they are concepts and ideas we as humans have made and maintained.
This natural setting also lets Blackness exist in a beautiful space. Blackness is elegant, strong and powerful - what if technology could embody this too?
Who is this for?
This is a family friendly exhibition, suitable for all ages. We encourage you to bring along your kids, parents or grandparents! Unfortunately this is a pet free zone, unless it’s a goldfish or a reeeeally cute hedgehog.
Who created it?
This exhibition is created by Identity 2.0 (hello 👋🏽) a creative studio working at the intersection of digital rights, technology and identity. We worked with a range of artists and researchers from underrepresented ethnicities to bring this exhibition to life, as well as creating some pieces ourselves.. We’ve made a lot of things before which explore the data we give away online, like a digital exhibition, a zine and a web series.
How much is it?
£3 per person. But if you want to support a small mission-led community studio you can pay £5. Who knows, we might throw in a covid safe elbow-five to say thanks.
Under 12s, LCB members, and any households on the benefits below, can have a free ticket. Just email us at info@identity20.org and we'll send a code to you!
If, for any other reason, you are struggling to afford the exhibition, then please get in touch. We won't ask for evidence or proof of why you can't afford it. For us, this really is a conversation and space we want as many people as possible to be involved with.
We’re selling these tickets on an honor system, so we trust that people who want to make a fairer future will also believe in paying what they need to for this exhibition.

What about Covid-19?
Whilst we’re very excited to bring this to life in a real space, we are taking precautions to ensure every is and feels safe. That means there are staggered entrance times, so we can still adhere to social distancing. Any volunteers helping run the exhibition will be wearing a face mask, and we will provide hand sanitizers stations across the exhibition. It will also have a set route around the exhibition, with the final theme of the exhibition being outside.
What else can I see whilst I’m there?
PEOPLE AND ART. 2020 COULD NEVER.
You can also visit our little gift shop which will contain Sci Fi comics by black artists, a few reading recommendations and a few bits of merch!

Wait who’s Identity 2.0?
Identity 2.0 is a creative studio working at the intersection of digital rights, technology and identity. We produce work independently and with clients that explores what it means to exist online. Our approach combines creative technology, immersive experiences and humour to create accessible and fun spaces to explore serious and important conversations. It’s run by Savena Surana and Arda Awais, two london-based creatives who have been named Web Champions 2021 by the Web Foundation.
Supported by Leicester City Council and De Montfort University.
