Online roundtable for the comics community on how we take the recommendations of the UK Comics Creators Research Report and make them stick
Comics are the best, and we make them because we love them. Despite the complete lack of professional or pastoral support, we plough on through those challenges, those pitfalls, those night terrors.
This online discussion event, the first of three (being: 1. Comics Creators; 2. Comics Livelihoods; and 3. Comics Industry), is open to all those working in and with comics in the UK, and will focus specifically on the needs of the creators themselves: on wellbeing, on training, on confidence and community-building, and on inclusion.
Following a very brief recap of the relevant bits of the UK Comics Creators Research Report (just in case not everyone has read all 99 pages...), there will be a series of breakout rooms to explore what the findings mean and how we can use them.
This is a space to get together with comics friends and peers and talk about what is worth preserving in our ecosystem, what efforts need redoubling, what flawed elements need to be fixed, and what is missing entirely. A much-needed opportunity to celebrate what works and analyse what doesn’t, so that we can shape those necessary improvements together.
Hosted by Hannah Berry
(PS to clarify the title, I’m calling the impossible hardships of being a comics creator a mess, I’m not calling you a mess. I would never.)
