Edward HouseGlasgow, Glasgow
Thursday, Jan 15, 2026 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm GMT
Overview

Join The Alexander "Greek" Thompson society for an introductory talk on Alexander's architectural work and legacy on Thursday 15 January.

Alexander "Greek" Thomson was a Scottish architect and architectural theorist, and pioneer in sustainable building practices. Less well known globally than his peer, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Alexander's legacy is rooted in Glasgow and is still admired today.

Alexander and his partners designed more than 150 buildings across Glasgow and the west of Scotland, including Holmwood House, Great Western Terrace, Moray Place, St Vincent Street Church, Grecian Chambers (now the CCA building in Sauchiehall Street) as well as warehouses, offices, hotels, terraces and tenements. Many may have been lost over time, but much remain.

FREE event - drop ins welcome but booking advised to help us keep an eye on numbers.

Email amcv@glasgowlife.org.uk for any questions or access reuirements ahead of the event.

This talk will accompany Thompson150 - an exhibition from The Alexander Thomson Society marking the 150th anniversary of the death of Alexander 'Greek' Thomson in the Sauchiehall Street Culture and Heritage District Project Space.
