Threshold
An MA P:DP Presentation
Threshold is a physical theatre work that reimagines Du Liniang, one of the most iconic figures in classical Chinese literature, to explore the tension between two coexisting selves in a contemporary context: the “real self,” shaped by social order and control, and the “dream self,” driven by repressed desire and instinct.
Through resistance, distortion, and gradual entanglement, the work presents a state in which neither self fully replaces the other, nor completely disappears. Instead, a new form of being emerges through conflict. In the final transformation, as the boundary of consciousness begins to dissolve, a new self starts to take shape.
