Legislation in the food industry can be really confusing and many food businesses struggle to keep up to date with the requirements in their sector.

The free to attend session is part of the THRIVE programme, now in its third year is a collaboration between the expert teams at Queen Margaret University, SRUC Scotland’s Rural College, and SAC Consulting. 
Understanding the legislative background to any business can be daunting, and businesses in the food and drink sector is no exception. However, understanding the framework to protect your business, yourself and your customers is essential. 
Whether you are a food manufacturer, a café, a foodservice business, a nutritionist, farm shop or other, it is vital that you are complying with the relevant legal requirements for your business. There are many examples for instance of incorrect product labelling, illegal or misleading health claims, uncompliant or unregistered premises, or unsafe working practices. In many cases the companies themselves do not realise they are uncompliant, which can be no defence if challenged by the authorities. 

Let us help guide you through the basics for starting out in your food and drink venture, signposting you to various sources of information and providing an opportunity for Q&amp;A at the end of the session. This evening session is free to attend.

About the organiser
The Scottish Centre for Food Development &amp; Innovation, based at Queen Margaret University Edinburgh, was established in 2014 to meet the growing needs of the food industry sector in Scotland and beyond. We undertake projects, large and small, across the food and drink industry, with research partners via grant funded organisations and also via commercial consultancy. We have helped a large number of SMEs and micro businesses with a variety of services such as product development (from concept to launch), consumer insight, nutrition, pack labelling, and scale up.
