Join us for Throwing Your Voice - a writing workshop led by Nick Sorensen on Saturday 4 October at 2pm.
In this workshop we will be having a go at writing a dramatic monologue, a poem in which an imagined speaker addresses a silent listener – usually not the reader. This will be an opportunity to take on the voice of another character, an alter ego or superhero.
We will be looking at examples of poems that are written from the perspective of 'the other' and explore the different ways in which we can find a new voice, what it might say and who the listener might be.
There will be time for some free writing as we explore and create our characters and then an opportunity to put these initial ideas into some kind of poetic form.
For this inclusive workshop you need to bring your notebook, pens and pencils - and please don't leave your sense of humour at home!
The Trowbridge Stanza was established in 2016, and is a Poetry Society Stanza that meets every first Saturday at Drawing Projects UK in Trowbridge. Poetry Society Stanzas are poetry groups run voluntarily by members of the Poetry Society. Although several of the group belong to the Poetry Society, there is no obligation for anyone to join. More information about Poetry Society Stanza Memorandum of Understanding including their Code of Conduct can be found here.
Everyone is welcome to this friendly and inclusive group, a mixture of published and unpublished poets, with an age range of 16+ to 80+, who travel to Drawing Projects UK (next to Trowbridge train station) from all over the south west region.
The session starts promptly at 2pm and runs until 4pm, it takes place in our project space. Arthaus Coffee will be open until 3pm.
