Basic training for new activists

Greenpeace NL

A 5 hour training at our Amsterdam warehouse to practice your skills as an activist.

This training is the starting point for all people who want to be an activist with Greenpeace. In this training you will learn the action skills needed for Greenpeace actions like shutting down a coal fired power station, blocking private jets or shutting down a polluting factory. Of course, not all Greenpeace actions are full on blockades. Sometimes all you need is the right banner at the right place at the right time. Still it is good to be prepared and trained for all the types of actions and that is what this training is for.Among other things you will learn about:

Non-violence,

Greenpeace history & values,

De-escalation,

Action skills (such as how & where to chain yourself safely to stop machines of climate destruction),

Legal risks you can expect as a Greenpeace activist,

Safety before, during and after actions,

How to behave during & after arrest,

The way Greenpeace actions are organized and how actions of other groups are different.

Part of the training is to get to know each other and the Greenpeace warehouse. There is also an action simulation that prepares you for the real deal as well as possible. After the training you will hopefully become part of the Greenpeace activist community, joining us in working towards a more peace and just world. And maybe, in time, even join one of the specialist teams like the boat team, the climbing team, the ground team or the drone team.Sign UpBefore you sign up. Please consider:1) There are many ways Greenpeace works towards a just, green and peaceful world. Doing direct action is just one of the ways, and it has risks such as legal trouble which may result in a criminal record. This is not for everyone and that is okay! Think before you sign up if this is a role that fits you. It is totally fine if you want to help behind the scenes, it is as important as the 'front line' work!2) Signing up is commitment to show up at the training. We will count on you. We usually have limited spots available. If you sign up and something comes up that prevents you to join the training let us know!Having said this, if you still want to join our amazing training then claim your 'ticket' ! We from the action team will be very happy to welcome you.Start preparingCan't wait? We got you!
