About this event
The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Learning Disability and Autism – Tier 2 is the government-mandated training for health and social care staff who provide direct care and support.
This training was created following the preventable death of Oliver McGowan and is designed to ensure staff have the right knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver safe, compassionate and person-centred care to autistic people and people with a learning disability.
Who should attend
Tier 2 is suitable for:
- Health and social care staff in patient-facing or care-providing roles
- Support workers, carers, nurses, AHPs, and frontline practitioners
- Anyone who requires mandatory Tier 2 compliance
What to expect on the day
- Lived-experience-led training delivered by expert facilitators
- Co-training with trainers who have lived experience of autism and/or learning disability
- Practical, real-life examples to support day-to-day practice
- A focus on communication, reasonable adjustments, and understanding individual needs
- Interactive discussion, reflection, and scenario-based learning
Learning outcomes
By the end of the session, participants will:
- Understand autism and learning disability beyond stereotypes
- Recognise the importance of reasonable adjustments
- Improve communication and person-centred care approaches
- Reflect on their own practice and make meaningful changes
Certification
- Fully compliant with NHS England / Skills for Care requirements
- Participants will receive a Tier 2 Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training certificate
