TILKA is an intimate portrait of five women who come together to create a collective piece of theatre with Seenaryo amid Lebanon’s collapse. Najah, Tima, Rania, Fatima and Fida meet in March 2021 for an artist’s residency in the mountains outside Beirut. As the country grapples with collapse, TILKA weaves together their individual stories with a shared story of displacement, motherhood and hope told through the play.
Director Myriam Geagea describes the film as "a testament to the transformative power of art and self-expression."
The film won Best Local Documentary at the Lebanese Independent Film Festival, a Special Jury Mention at the Beirut Women Film Festival and premiered in the UK at Cambridge Film Festival. It was also selected for the AWAN (Arab Women Artists Now) Festival in London, Migration Matters Festival in Sheffield and Saba’eenFestival in Amman, as well as screening in the UK Parliament on 3rd December.

About Seenaryo
Participatory theatre and play can transform an individual’s sense of agency. They gain the power to shape their own narrative and expand what is possible, individually but also through collective action. Working in Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine and Syria, Seenaryo uses theatre and play to support people to heal, lead and learn. We co-create performances with under-served communities, train future leaders and transform classrooms through play. Seenaryo won the Resilience in Action Award at HundrED 2024, the Arts, Culture & Heritage prize at the 2023 UK Charity Awards and was one of Expo 2020 Dubai’s 120 Global Innovators.
