There are accessible toilets approximately 50m away at St Stephens House.Maketank is a performance incubator and a creative hub occupying a former retail commercial space on Paris street since 2019. Seating will be spaced and face coverings required (unless exempt) in line with the latest government guidelines.Time Being explores time and slowness. It investigates how we might understand the physical world through our senses rather than our words.Made in collaboration with a young adult called Ruairí Corr, Time Being challenges expectations about language and narrative. There is no story with a beginning, middle and end. Instead, the 14 minute film intimately conveys four materials: air, wood, clay and metal.In a research system that prioritises speed of production and the written word, Time Being works with sense perception: the vibration of a gong felt through the stomach, or the age of a tree through feeling growth rings.This exhibition at Maketank is the first screening of this new short film by Deborah Robinson.Part of a Wellcome Trust five year funded project called Waiting Times, the exhibition brings questions about medical waiting and experiences of time into the community.About Ruairí Corr: Ruairí regularly practices yoga and meditation. He models clay and makes large scale metal sculptures. A former student of WESC in Exeter, he is passionate about the environment. He trained in horticulture and works at WESC Country Works. During lockdown he has grown 28 different types of mint, all with different scents.About the artistDeborah Robinson works collaboratively and across disciplines with scientists, artists, biomedical experts and technologists to make installation artwork using moving image and sound.Deborah is Honorary Artistic Research Fellow at the Wellcome Centre for Cultures and Environments of Health, University of Exeter. Her work has been exhibited in the UK and Internationally.About Waiting Times<a href="http://waitingtimes.exeter.ac.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Waiting Times</a> opens up what it means to wait in and for healthcare by examining lived experiences, representations and histories of delayed and impeded time. In an era in which time is lived at increasingly different and complex speeds, Waiting Times looks to understand both the difficulties and vital significance of waiting for practices of care.Waiting Times is a Wellcome Trust-funded collaboration between the University of Exeter and Birkbeck, University of London.
